Stax Music Academy Presents Fourth Annual Black History Month production: “Peace, Love, Soulsville: The Art of Healing”

January 22, 2015, MEMPHIS, TN – The Soulsville Foundation’s Stax Music Academy (SMA) will once again offer Memphis the city’s premier Black History Month celebration with its original musical created by its student and staff. Led by SMA Artistic Director Justin Merrick, this year’s show, “Peace, Love, Soulsville: The Art of Healing” will include music, dancing, drama, and more and intends to show audiences how the power of music brings communities and helps heal problems in the world we face today.

    • Wednesday, February 25th, 6 pm. $5 dress rehearsal
    • Thursday, February 26th, 10 am, school groups only. Must be reserved in advance. Free admission
    • Thursday, February 26th 7:30 pm, $10 General admission

In true Soul Train fashion, this year’s show will take the audience on a fantastic journey of music, politics, funk, and grit with talented young Memphians trailblazing the path of the Neo Civil Rights Movement. The production will address issues of classism, racism, and sexism that both students and adults face and will entertain in jubilant fashion to demonstrate how art can help heal an individual and/or a community.
